8 Reasons to See a Naturopathic Doctor

Wondering if naturopathic medicine is right for you? Take a look and see how a naturopathic doctor can help you achieve optimal health and well-being.

  1. We get to the root of your health concerns. Naturopathic doctors are unique in that we take a whole health approach. We look at all of your concerns and how they are connected in order to determine the cause of your symptoms and work WITH you to resolve them, not just cover them up.

  2. We take the time to listen to you. A major benefit of being a naturopathic doctor is that we’re not limited to short appointment times. Initial visits range from 60-90 minutes with follow-up appointments being 30-45 minutes. During this time, we build a relationship with you, answer questions and educate you about your health.

  3. We identify your risk factors. Naturopathic doctors focus on health promotion and disease prevention. We look at your personal health history, social history, family history, lab work, etc to help identify your risk factors for disease and work with you to reduce them.

  4. We treat you as an individual. Naturopathic doctors recognize that no two people are identical. We tailor each treatment plan to the concerns, lifestyle and history of each person in order for you to have the most realistic, sustainable and effective care. In doing this we can save you money by reducing the number of unnecessary vitamins and supplements you take and focus on what nutrients and interventions will most benefit you.

  5. We are primary health care providers. Naturopathic doctors are trained in biological sciences, clinical sciences, pharmacology and naturopathic modalities. We learn to perform physical exams and interpret blood work to evaluate overall health and well-being.

  6. We can treat chronic conditions that are poorly understood. Naturopathic doctors have tools that can resolve vague/peculiar symptoms or condi

tions that have limited improvement with pharmaceuticals. These tools include diet and lifestyle counselling, acupuncture, botanical medicine, homeopathy, and physical medicine.

  1. We work as a team. Naturopathic doctors work cooperatively with you and any other health care practitioners you are seeing to ensure that you are getting the best care possible.

  2. We are covered by extended health care coverage. Although naturopathic medicine isn’t covered under OHIP many extended health care plans have naturopathic coverage. Talk to your provider to see what coverage you have.
